During my life I have had people express that when they think of Australia, they imagine that we have kangaroos loitering in our streets. Clearly they are thinking that we are a backwoods populated with rednecks, and while this may be partly true, it is mostly from sunburn.

So just to prove that they are not totally incorrect, I have photographic evidence that some of our city streets do have kangaroos in them, but the grazing is certainly not good.

This site describes it as:
The growth structure of bamboo is entirely different than that presented by trees. The coarse, open cell structure so characteristic of the various woods is totally absent. In its place are found bundles of microscopic fibers laid parallel to each other, much like the strands within the sheath of a bridge cable. The spaces between adjacent bundles or cords of the bamboo are filled with lignin, a thermoplastic resin. Toward the outer surface of the hollow shell the number of these fibrous strands increases rapidly. Just below the outer protective enamel, bamboo is composed almost entirely of these cellulose fibers. Thus, considered from the outermost surface inwardly, the fiber structure, density, and strength of bamboo vary enormously.

I believe this is called a Vietnamese Tael but am happy to be advised otherwise. It has been a whiles since Mrs Mail got it when we lived in Guam in 1981ish.

The story goes ( as I recall it) that during the war/s the Vietnamese would convert their assets to gold or silver and have them made into jewelry so that they could hide it and they were always able to get their hands on cash if needed. The tael came in sizes like quarter or half or full, and this gold one is either a quarter or half, can’t remember which.
Not sure about the silver one.
